Electrical, Automation & Mechanical Capabilities
Our Engineering and Design team includes high calibre mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, structural and systems engineers. Plus we offer mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic designers alongside specialists in software and hardware design and development of software for PLC, Robotic, Safety Controllers, HMI’s and SCADA systems and communications networks.
Our team is complemented by project managers, safety assurance practitioners and integration and commissioning experts, all highly experienced in the delivery of complex projects and special purpose equipment.
Our capabilities are enhanced by our experience in all facets of project delivery, which is the key differentiator and value proposition we offer our customers.
We tailor our service offerings to suit specific customer and project requirements, and welcome early engagement of our services in a project’s development, for optimising design and delivery phases.
1. Design and CAD Drafting
Taking concepts and specifications for a project and turning these into designs and drawing models can be the activity most impacting efficiency and manufacturability of a project.
Marand has developed systems, processes, libraries and expertise in this specific area, aimed at efficient design and drawing production for systems including:
- 3D models and assemblies
- Mechanical general assemblies, sub assemblies and detailed parts drawings
- Bills of materials
- Electrical single line and detailed schematics drawings
2. FEA
Finite Element Analysis allows optimisation of mechanical and structural components and assemblies for performance, strength, weight and failure analysis. We develop a clear set of requirements using a systems approach to manage these.
3. Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems design
Machinery control systems often utilise pneumatic or hydraulic components to control the motion of a piece of equipment or subassembly.
Designing and selecting the most suitable components for these systems will ensure design life and RAMS metrics are best accommodated. Marand’s expertise can ensure appropriate sizing, packaging and future expansion capacity is specified in designs, and that RAMS metrics are adequately accommodated.
We have experience with all major pneumatic and hydraulic manufactures equipment, and our “Qualifications” are available here showing our accreditations with these manufacturers and suppliers.
4. Functional Descriptions and SOW Development
To describe to the engineers and designers how a set of requirements will be implemented, programmed or coded into a control system, functional descriptions are created for
full turnkey facilities and individual equipment.
These provide step-by-step descriptions of processes for coding of PLC’s, SCADA, Numerical Controllers, HMI display menus and pages, and robotic control interfaces.
Statements-of-work provide clear and safe information on any activity that staff may need to undertake in the delivery of a task. Applications may include preparing Statements-of-work for:
- The activities undertaken at various work cells or stations within a workshop or manufacturing facility
- Installing, packing, transportation and energisation of machinery or equipment in a facility
5. Industry 4.0 and Big Data
Industrial scale IP addressing of in-field components for data gathering (big data).
Modelling operational data to predict maintenance periods and identify unplanned or corrective maintenance events.
6. Safety in Design
Managing and engaging stakeholders throughout the project.
Holding critical design reviews to ensure the capture, ranking and mitigation of identified hazards.
- HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA.
- Creation and management of a Project Risk Matrix.
7. PLC development
All facets of design, configuration, communication and software coding with decades of
experience gained over the last 50 years.
8. SCADA and HMI development
Our palletising cells are designed to handle a diverse range of materials and packaging requirements with automated precision including the following:
- Standard and bespoke pallet sizes
- Palletising of a wide range of materials size, shape, weight, density
- Automated protective wrapping of loaded pallet
- Printing and attaching waybills, BOMs, destination and tracking information, trackers
9. Robotics
All facets of design, selection, configuration, communication and software coding.
Interfacing with control and production management systems.
10. Siemens NC Programming
- All facets of design, selection, configuration, and software coding.
- Interfacing with control and supervisory systems.
11. Multi Axis Machine Design and Motion Control
- All facets of design, selection, configuration, and software coding.
- Interfacing with control and supervisory systems.
12. Communications network design
All facets of design, selection, configuration of industrial communications systems.
13. Real time PLC and Database Integration
Assurance that the components of a system operate and interface correctly when integrated into a system i.e. an assembly line, manufacturing process, communications network.
14. Database Programming
Assurance that the components of a system operate and interface correctly when integrated into a system i.e. an assembly line, manufacturing process, communications network.
15. Software Development
Assurance that the components of a system operate and interface correctly when integrated into a system i.e. an assembly line, manufacturing process, communications network.
16. Vision Systems
Marand has the ability to select and integrate commercial vision systems into operational processes for quality control of products and to minimise variability on processes or product manufacture.
17. Commissioning
- Test plans and schedules
- Test case documentation
- Stakeholder and Interface coordination
- Testing software and test automation tools
- Development of artefacts
- Planning and coordination
- Test delivery and reports
- Non-compliance and remediation management
18. System & Equipment Integration and Interfacing
- Level Of Repair Analysis, Maintenance Task Analysis, RAMS, remote monitoring, consignment spares, obsolescence engineering.
- Preventative and Corrective Maintenance.
- Sparing.
- Inspections including appraising legacy equipment for repair v’s replace.
- Maintenance including servicing and calibration.
- Repair, Refurbishment, Upgrades including control systems, safety systems, pneumatics and hydraulics.

19. Verification and Validation
Assurance that the components of a system operate and interface correctly when integrated into a system i.e. an assembly line, manufacturing process, communications network.
20. ITP Documents and Plans
Inspection and Test Plans and test sheets are used to validate each derived requirement delivered by the equipment or process.
Prepared after functional requirements are frozen, this gives the customer time to review and accept test sheets and plans.
21. IOMM Manuals
Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manuals are a critical suite of documents. Often these are used for self installation and commissioning by a customer, or a third party.
22. Training Manuals
The development of training manuals and materials is also critical to project success.
Delivering training to staff and operators ensures equipment operates as expected and at pre-designed levels of safety and performance.
