Electrical & Automation Services
Our Engineering and Design team is staffed with high calibre mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, structural and systems engineers; mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic designers plus specialists in software and hardware design and development of software for PLC, Robotic, Safety Controllers, HMI’s and SCADA systems and communications networks.
This is complemented by project managers and safety assurance practitioners, integration and commissioning experts, all highly experienced with the delivery of complex projects and special purpose equipment.
Our experience in project delivery is the key differentiator and value proposition in all aspects of our services to customers.
We are always encouraged by a customer’s early engagement of our services in a project’s development. Our optimisation helps ensure success through its design and delivery phases.
We tailor our service offerings to suit specific customer and project requirements.
1. Concept & Feasibility Studies
During a project’s internal proposal phase, its progression through technical and commercial gateways may be dependant upon reviews to ensure its feasibility. Provision of independent concept design reviews provides reassurance to all project stakeholders, protecting scope and budget while ensuring the intent of the project. Re-evaluating technical and economic viability is also a valuable service to protect for, or against, change to a project.
2. Specifications and Scope Development
Developing a clear set of requirements and using a systems approach to manage these enables the customer to ensure the project’s intended outcomes are delivered. It is a critical activity to define scope to enable the measurement of performance and delivery.
We prepare detailed functional and technical specifications based upon functional requirements, location, work practices and future requirements.
This can be for individual pieces of equipment such as:
- robotic manufacturing cells
- materials handling devices
- integrated assembly units
- test cells
- special purpose NC machines
- full facility and process specification.
We specialise in:
- HMI functionality
- PLC hardware and software configuration
- motors and VFD selection and configuration
- Maximum demand calculations (AS3000)
- safety PLC’s and control systems.
Marand can assist with specifying internationally sourced equipment for compliance to local standards and regulations.
3. Functional Safety
Our TUV certified safety professionals provide a range of safety critical services.
Please refer to the Functional Safety page.
4. Process improvement and optimisation
- Understand problems with current process or operation
- Site investigation and intelligence gathering
- Review and baseline the process or operations
- Best practice comparison and gap analysis
- Presentation of outcomes and phased improvement plan
- Implement plan
- Measure and adjust
5. Detailed design and documentation
Once high-level designs and general arrangements are drafted, detailed design of equipment and plant can commence.
Assemblies, sub assemblies and component details are engineered and designed in electronic format to enable 3D modelling, creation of BOM’s, manufacturing drawings including any specialised treatments to aide manufacture.
Compliance with appropriate standards ie:
- AS3000
- AS2024
- IEC61508 parts 1-3
6. Prototyping
Creation of digital prototypes allows stakeholders to iteratively review concepts leading to highly defined requirements at an early stage of supplier engagement. Benefits include optimised:
- Tact time
- Equipment quantities and utilisation
- Throughput and staffing estimates
- Remote location considerations
- Resource and training impacts
- Management of technology and automation step change within organisation
- Development of virtual models and digit twins
- Proof of concept
- Simulated reality
- Traditional prototype of class A and B surfaces
7. Site construction and installation
- Mobilisation planning
- SOP’s and installation procedures
- Safe work statements and JSA’s
8. Functional Safety
Assurance that the components of a system operate and interface correctly when integrated into a system i.e. an assembly line, manufacturing process, communications network.
9. Commissioning
- Test plans
- Test case documentation
- Material and utilities coordination
- Interface coordination
- Planning and stakeholder management
- Test delivery and compliance reports
10. Verification and Validation
- Test plans and schedules
