Australia’s largest privately-owned aerostructures manufacturer

Marand Aerostructures has recently become a first tier supplier to the global aviation industry and boasts Australia’s only climate controlled aerostructures assembly facility. Leveraging decades of experience with the aerospace industry, at the start of 2014 Marand commenced manufacturing Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) F-35A vertical tails under agreement with both BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin.

The F-35 specifications demand the application of unique manufacturing processes to achieve levels of accuracy unlike any other aircraft production in the world today.  Marand developed a state-of-the-art, climate controlled assembly facility at its Moorabbin site which delivers these unique processes in the most cost effective manner. This has been achieved by leveraging Marand’s extensive experience in the design and manufacture of precision machine tools and aerospace assembly tooling.

For over 30 years, Marand has designed and manufactured a range of facilities, assembly tools and components for aerospace companies, such as major automated assembly systems for Boeing’s 787 program. Close customer relationships have allowed Marand to develop an excellent understanding of aerostructure assembly processes.

Since 2003, Marand has also provided engineered solutions to the JSF project. Our knowledge, experience and performance with tooling and ground support equipment in both the commercial and defence industries is what inspired the confidence of Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems. As a result, following a highly-successful capability transfer process, Marand’s assembly line is now a second source to the BAE Systems line in the UK and will manufacture and deliver over 700 F-35A vertical tails over the next 20 years.

The establishment of Marand’s aerostructures capability also demanded the development and management of a complex supply chain stretching across Europe, the UK, USA and Australia.  With value chains for rare specifications of titanium and high temperature carbon fibre materials that can stretch over 18 months, Marand has developed supply chain management skills of the highest order.

All this is executed within a secure ITAR/EAR controlled environment that gives our customers and their respective Governments absolute assurance that their security interests are being protected to the highest order.

Marand’s aerospace customers span both commercial and defence industries, with the provision of tooling, ground support equipment and assembly automation, and most recently aerostructures assembly for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program.
